Can a Simulated Game Day Ever Be as Good as a Day’s Game Shooting?

When comparing a Simulated Game Day to a traditional day of Game Shooting, one of the most obvious differences is the cost. With no birds to rear and no beaters to pay, a Sim Day offers a more affordable alternative. Some argue that a Sim Day just doesn’t match up to the real thing - clay targets slow down while birds speed up as they fly through the guns. But is that really a deal-breaker?

Let’s take a closer look.

No Need to Worry About Clays Slowing Down!

At Bisley Shooting Ground, our Simulated Game Days take place on the renowned Cottesloe Heath Ground, considered one of the best game training grounds in the country. Featuring four Grouse Butts, a High Tower, and a Crane capable of releasing targets up to 200 feet in any direction, our drives will keep you on your toes and your adrenaline pumping. You won’t even notice the difference!

More Targets, Less Pressure

Sim Days have a more relaxed and light-hearted feel, with less pressure on both the Guns and the organiser. Participants can enjoy an abundance of targets, ensuring a full day of action. As organisers, we can confidently provide an exceptional shooting experience, allowing you to focus on enjoying the day rather than worrying about the unpredictability of live game shooting.

Standing on a peg with no birds flying over

Traditional game shooting comes with its own set of challenges, particularly for the gamekeeper. Months of preparation go into organising a single day, yet factors beyond their control, such as bird flight paths, can make or break the experience. Guests may find themselves standing on a peg with no birds flying over, which, while accepted as part of the sport, can be frustrating for both Guns and gamekeepers alike.

Sim Days Guarantee Plenty of Shooting

On a Sim Day, the shooting experience is both challenging and consistent. Our goal is to provide realistic and engaging targets that come thick and fast. Unlike a traditional game shoot where action can be sporadic, a Sim Day guarantees continuous shooting, helping to improve confidence and skill to become a better shot.

What to Expect & What to Wear on a Sim Day at Bisley

A Sim Day is a fantastic way to prepare for live game shooting, or for some, it may even be the preferred option! There's no need for tweeds or breeks; simply wear country clothing suited to the weather. Eye and ear protection are essential, as is a hat to protect you from the broken clays. We also recommend wearing gloves, even on warm days, to protect your hands from the hot barrels.

For cartridges, fibre wad only is required. You’ll need 250 for the morning format and 350 for the longer format, which includes lunch. Our Sim Days accommodate a maximum of 24 Guns, with two people on each peg alternating between loading and shooting halfway through the drive

Due to the high volume of shooting, we recommend using an over and under shotgun, as barrels can become extremely hot. A light load cartridge, such as a 21-gram, is advisable. Cartridges are available for purchase at reception (21 gram or 27 gram), but don’t forget to bring your licence if you wish to buy from us.

A Sport for Everyone

For those who may not wish to participate in a live game shoot a Sim Day offers an inclusive alternative where no animals are harmed. It’s an exciting and accessible sporting experience for all.

Can a Sim Day Be as Good as a Game Shoot?

In our opinion, absolutely! And with our half day format finishing at 12.30pm, it’s the perfect way to balance sport with a busy lifestyle!
